tragedy upon tragedy

October 9, 2005

I can’t really wrap my head around the fact that a disaster of such magnitude is happening. The reports of rescue attempts, especially of the buried schoolchildren, are too terrible to contemplate. I can’t wrap my head around the numbers involved. It’ll be time to donate to the Red Cross soon, when my paycheck comes in.

And Stan has now caused more deaths in Mexico than Katrina did here.

If you count the December 26th Asian tsunami last year in this year, this is one freak 12 month period for cataclysmic events.

I’m kind of tragedied out by now. That sounds awful, but I just don’t have the mental energy to react from my gut about these things. Intellectually, they’re awful, but I’m kind of numb now.

It’s funny, because little things these days will get severe overreactions from me, but big tragedies, blah. Like the other day, I couldn’t get some stuff to print, and I almost smashed the computer against the wall.

I’m sure I fit some psychiatric profile.

I sort of feel this way too. It’s almost like my mind wants to stop caring or even noticing because there is too much bad stuff going on.
