Reality check: Al Bundy

August 23, 2006

Everytime I wax poetic about my high school, I think people must think I’m like Al Bundy and his stories of his glorious high school days.

Where is the “punch self” smiley?

Reality check: Al Bundy

You know people that use Al Bundy as a reference?

Doesn’t everyone know Al Bundy? Seriously.

Know of /= use as an analogy/reference.

I know who is, watched the show off and on when it was on, but I don’t know anyone who has ever said, “that’s just like Al Bundy.”

Not saying that in the history of mankind, nobody has ever said that, but he just doesn’t seem to me to be a cultural touchstone.

I had no idea he referred to his high school days on the show.

I didn’t really mean “know of his existence” but I assumed a large number of our age group watched that show growing up.

Or is it just me and kerowack? Because I’m sure he watched it. 😀

Being like Al Bundy means
– being stuck in the glory days of high school
– being scared of having sex with your wife
– putting your hand in your pants when you watch tv

I thought everyone would get the reference. He played football in high school and had one game where he played really well or something. He imagines that his dreams were destroyed by his wife or kids or other random people.

Chad calls me Al Bundy whenever I talk about cheerleading and winning the state championship. So it’s not just you!

A dazzling urbanite like myself only understands references to lattes, Volvos, Tom Wolfe, Woody Allen, and Gloria Steinem.
