I used Turbotax. I think I’ve been filing by Turbotax since 2000, possibily 1999. I used the Premier version the year I sold some shares and the year that I bought my house (I might even have used their Audit Defense package that year), but every other year, I’ve just used plain old vanilla Turbotax.
This year, they have made their donation deduction calculator for free (used to be an add-on charge), so I benefitted from that, having donated a bunch of clothes this past year.
How did you go about the clothes donation? I used the estimator and I came out with like 2 grand worth of stuff. I’d love to claim it, but I have no receipts (other than something from salvation army saying “4 bags of clothing”) So I just put $500, twice (once for each donation slip). I don’t know what’s likely to get me audited, but we donated thousands of dollars worth of clothes this year and I’d like that reflected on my taxes.
Also, how did your state compare to federal? It shows me getting back some for federal, and owing a fair bit for state.

Did you use turbotax or other, or did you do it by hand?
This year there’s nothing interesting going on in my tax profile so I’m thinking of saving the accountant fees and just using turbotax. I did a prelim data entry (only took about 30 minutes) and I have a small refund, but I’m not sure if I’m missing something (or worse, claiming too much).
