i’m done
eta: after re-reading this post, i think it’s unfair of me to classify the second person as a part-time asshole. i think that just because we don’t mesh well doesn’t mean that this person is a jerk, so i wanted to clarify that.
there is a web forum that i visit on a daily basis that used to be an enjoyable community, but i’m through with it because it doesn’t have anything for me anymore.
it used to have lots of interesting political discourse, but some of the main contributors have left for various reasons. it used to have quirky conversations about goofy topics, but it’s dwindled quite a bit. it used to have one less asshole, but now the new asshole is pretty vocal.
now, they are joking about how seppo’s coworker must be good at giving head. yes, it does seem like she doesn’t qualify for the obvious requirements. but no, it’s no excuse to malign the professional and sexual life of someone on a public forum. and either everyone thinks it’s ok to trash someone’s reputation without their knowledge or ability to defend themselves, or others are too disgusted to comment. either way, it’s not who i want to hang out with. what if, without my knowledge, someone was saying the same about me? how dare they?
eta: i am linking seppo’s post about the job situation here. for the record, i believe seppo expressed himself entirely appropriately and explained why he was frustrated with the situation and the person in question, and that it’s the aforementioned asshole (and one other part-time asshole one other person that often rubs me the wrong way in his ideologies) that jump on just about any situation to perpetually propagate this particular type of misogynistic bs.
I agree that everyone else is goofing around. But it is still beyond civil discourse to trash a private citizen’s reputation on a public forum without them having the ability to defend themselves. It is not remotely ok, and goes against everything I believe in. And no one is standing up to stop it. That is despicable.
I totally agree. It is despicable that he would say it in the first place. But this is also the second time the subject’s come up. I think most of the rest of the people on the board remember how angry some people got the first time around, and as a result, it’s really just this one guy. That no one’s said anything to him again is, IMO, because the subject’s come up before, and been discussed, and I think that everyone knows this guy’s just an idiot. That’s my personal opinion, though, and I totally understand that there are differing viewpoints possible here. For reference, I’ve asked the mods to ban him, whatever good that will do. But I understand your frustration, for sure, and understand if you’re through. I expect, actually, that the “community” there is done for, and it’ll just be an issue of keeping in touch with the people I like from there.
which I did via the mods, in private, right after he posted that, and again, in public, after posting that last comment. 🙂
I just posted a comment about how I thought it would help if you told posted about it, since she is your coworker, but you are way faster than me, so I deleted my previous post. 🙂
You’re done? 😥 😥 😥
That last comment brought to you by Mike. I always forget to sign my name on anonymous posts. 😮
I’m super close to leaving as well. The whole texture of the place shifted, and I don’t really enjoy it anymore. Too bad, it was a great way to keep in touch with you kids. 🙁

I understand Seppo’s position regarding his job, but I’d like to point one thing out. This also relates to the comment on the website about the felatio skills of his co-worker. The web is a public forum. Anyone looking for info on Seppo could easily punch Helava into google, get his site and read the things that he has typed. The same holds true for the “worksite”. On a public forum. Do we limit the access to these sites b/c we are concerned about who reads them? Do we let in concern us? What are the legal parameters regarding this? My point is this: We can write what we want, but we shouldn’t be upset if other people read it. We cannot assume that it will remain private.
I’d be perfectly fine with it if the subject of my posts read everything I wrote.
Whoa, where did all these comments come from? Wacky. Yeah, I don’t want to make a big deal of it on the actual boards, but I figured I could talk about it here. It’s just so awkward to tell people. Maybe we should form another general purpose forum, where we can invite our non-gaming friends to talk about whatever we want. 🙂 That would be nice.
oh yeah, the boards.
for some reason i stopped checking them a few months ago. i guess it was related to new job => wanting to make a “good impression” or something silly like that in an open office where everyone can read over my shoulder (no one else seems to browse random forums/blogs at work, weird) => once i left i didn’t go back.

i haven’t read your blog in a while. if you syndicated it it would show up in my blogreader ;-p
To be fair, I think it’s just one particular asshole, and everyone else is just goofing around. Still, I think that the presence of that particular asshole is a perfectly valid reason to leave the board alone, though I know that’s not your entire justification. Still, personally, I’m contemplating asking the mods to get him banned.
