TiVo == #1
TiVo now allows you to transfer mpg files from your PC to watch on your TiVo. Read about it here.
Actually, it’s been available since three whole days ago. They have filed an official request for me to send back my TiVo lemming membership card.
I hear this feature has been available on the replayTV for a long time already, but as the programming and user interface for TiVo is vastly superior (IMO) to replayTV (at least, as of the last iteration that I saw it), it is not really relevant to me. Now I just have to wait for the TiVos to get the upgrades to use with my new desktop software.
It’s getting kind of sad for me because it takes so long to transfer between my laptop and the TiVos (and between the TiVos) because they are all hooked up wirelessly that I am thinking up ways I can justify upgrading to a g router and adapters and/or running cables all over the place.
As a network obsessed individual who’s done both the running of the cat5 and the wireless g network, I advise the latter.
I need to figure out the relative transfer speeds, because I just read up a deal for a g router for $39 and a usb g adapter for $39 as well. That would be awesome.
That kicks ass.
I remember reading somewhere recently that Comcast just signed a big deal with Tivo. I can’t wait for the combo Comcast/Tivo boxes to start rolling out. The Motorolla we’ve got has some cool features (dual tuner, 160gig hd), but the ability to stream other types of media from the network would be hella cool.
